URE Federal Credit Union was established in 1936 by a group of Union Railroad Company employees who sought to create a member-owned financial cooperative for themselves and their colleagues.

Over the decades, the credit union expanded its field of membership through a series of mergers and charter changes to serve additional employee groups and organizations:

• 1984: The credit union merged with the Westinghouse Switchgear Employees Federal Credit Union, extending membership to employees of the Westinghouse Switchgear Division.

• 1989: Membership eligibility was extended to full-time employees of the Kennywood Park Corporation.

​

• 1996: The credit union began offering services to employees of the Reese Brothers Company in Pittsburgh.

• 2000: The charter was further updated to offer services to all employees of the Kennywood Park Corporation.

Headquartered in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the credit union remains a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution dedicated to providing financial services to its members and their families.
