To the Members of URE Federal Credit Union:
We would like to address a serious matter regarding your account security. We have been made aware that some of you have received fraudulent phone calls from individuals claiming to represent the credit union.
What is happening?
Scammers may be using “spoofing” technology to make your caller ID display as URE Federal Credit Union or 412-824-1166. During these calls, the scammers may:
- Claim there is “suspicious activity” or a “frozen account.”
- Ask you to “verify” your full Social Security number or credit card CVV.
- Request your Online Banking password or a One-Time Passcode (OTP) sent to your phone.
Important Reminder
URE Federal Credit Union will NEVER call, text, or email you to ask for your passwords, PINs, or one-time verification codes. These codes are for your use only and act as the final key to your account.
How to protect yourself:
- Hang up immediately: If a caller asks for sensitive information, end the call.
- Call us directly: If you are unsure if a call was legitimate, dial our official number found on the back of your debit card or our verified website.
- Do not trust Caller ID: Scammers can easily mimic official names and phone numbers.
- Staff: When you call ask for Kevin, Leann, Aley, or Alysia.
If you believe you have shared sensitive information or provided a code to an unauthorized caller, please contact our Fraud Department immediately at 412-824-1166.
Your security is our top priority. Thank you for being a vigilant member of our community.
Thank you,
Kevin G. Varrato
Manager
